BACK AND NECK PAIN

Pain in the neck can be due to: injury, a mechanical or muscular problem, a trapped nerve caused by a bulge in one of the discs between the vertebrae or from arthritis of the neck. It can range from mild discomfort to severe, burning pain. Upper or middle back pain can occur anywhere from the base of your neck to the bottom of your rib cage.

The main symptom of lower back pain is pain in the lower back that is felt as soreness, tension or stiffness. The pain will often only affect the lower back, but it may also be felt down the front, side, or back of your leg. The pain can develop suddenly after lifting something heavy or twisting your back awkwardly, or it can develop gradually as a result of years of poor posture.

CHRONIC PAIN

Chronic or persistent pain is pain that carries on for an extended period of time, potentially despite medication or treatment.  The pain may feel sharp or dull, causing a burning or aching sensation in the affected areas. It may be steady or intermittent, coming and going without any apparent reason. Chronic pain can occur in nearly any part of your body. The pain can feel different in the various affected areas.

The TMJ is made up of several parts: the lower jaw (or mandible) and the socket (or temporal bone). In between the mandible and the socket is a disc. The disc allows the joint to glide smoothly on opening and closing. The joint is also held in place by muscles and ligaments.
